She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones

And walks along with a parrot that talks
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailors all come in

二人は公園で並んで坐っていた
黄昏の空が暮れていく時
女は男を見つめ、男は閃きを感じ、それは骨身に沁みていった
ちょうどその時だった、彼が孤独に襲われ、
自分がまともだったらよかったのにと願ったのは
そして用心したんだ、運命のひとひねりに
古い運河に沿って二人は散歩した
ちょっぴりうろたえていたんだ、よく覚えている
そしてネオンがやけにまぶしい妙なホテルの中に入っていった
夜の熱気が男に襲いかかったよ
運命のひとひねりを抱えて走る貨物列車のように
女がアーケードを歩いていると
どこか遠くのほうからサキソフォンの音が聞こえてきた
一条の光がくたびれたブラインドを突き抜け、男が目を覚ます
女は入り口にいる盲目の男のコップに小銭を投げ入れ
そして忘れることにした、運命のひとひねりを
男が目を覚ますと、部屋の中はもぬけの殻
女の姿はどこにもなかった
どうでもいいさと男はひとりごち、窓を思いきり押し開けた
突如としてわけのわからない虚しさに襲われる
それをもたらしたのは、運命のひとひねり
チクタクと時を刻む時計の音が聞こえた
男はものまねをする鸚鵡を連れて歩き回る
船乗りたちが続々とやって来る船着場で女を見つけ出す
たぶん女はまた男を選んでくれるかもしれない、
いつまで待たなければならないのか
今一度、運命のひとひねりを
それは罪だと人は言う
心の中をあまりにも知り過ぎることは
彼女はぼくと双子だったと今でも信じているけど、ぼくは指輪をなくしてしまった
彼女は春に生まれたけど、ぼくが生まれたのはあまりにも遅すぎた
何もかも運命のひとひねりのせいさ
