On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
遥か彼方の丘の上に、古い無骨な十字架が立っていた
忍耐と辱しめの具現
そして、道に迷った人の世の慣わし故に、犠牲をものともしない人、
最も正しい人が打たれた、あの古い十字架に、私は惹かれる

何故か、古い無骨な十字架を捨て難く思う
終（つい）には、私が数々の栄誉の下に横たわるまで、

愛する神の子羊は、邪悪なカルヴァリの地まで、
それを引き受ける偽に、彼の人の栄華を天に留め置いた
